Our guide, Ricky, takes us via boat to the mainland
for a tour of the Mayan ruins of Altun Ha.
Along the river, the Mangroves are an amazing site, growing into the brackish water.
There were several large temples at Altun Ha dedicated to the Sun, Moon, Stars and Rain to name a few.
Ricky points out the face of a God.
Here were the upper class living quarters.
This was the tallest of the temples at this site.
It was 200 feet high. It had a staircase on the side that was easier to climb than using the front stairway.
Halfway up was a section reservered for the high priest.
From the top, the upper class living quarters were easy to pick out.
The view of the surrounding temples was spectacular.
